Resources for German

German is the native language of over 76 million people across the world, with an additional 56 million foreign speakers worldwide, making it the most widely spoken language of the EU after English. In addition to Germany, German is also an official language of Austria, Belgium, parts of Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, and Switzerland with many other countries regularly consuming German TV and media.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH GERMAN

I am currently studying German as my focus language, with the goal of achieving B1 level by the end of 2021. Therefore, the following resources have been thoroughly vetted by me as an active learner!

I previously studied 1 year of German in college (poorly) and took a few years’ break. I restarted my serious study in 2020 and have made tremendous progress in just the last year! My husband is a fluent speaker of German and I plan to move to Germany within the next few years.

You can follow my German-learning journey on YouTube (Melissa Jetzt Languages) and Twitter (@JetztMelissa).
